World Suicide Prevention Day 2012
Monday the 10th of September is World Suicide Prevention Day, this is the tenth anniversary of this important day. Each year, over 10 million people die by suicide globally. In Ireland, over 600 people die each year by suicide.
Suicide attempts and suicidal ideas is far more common. The number of suicide attempts may be up to 20 times the number of deaths by suicide. People can helped through these dark times to find other ways of coping, to find hope. Please support the various charities collecting this year as suicide prevention is dreadfully underfunded in Ireland.
If you know someone who is suicidal, please, talk to them. Don’t be scared to name it. Often just airing the concern can be enough to facilitate momentum to seeking assistance. Pieta House are running a collection to mark the day, please click here for more information.
