I offer professional crisis intervention to adolescents and adults experiencing moments of acute emotional upheaval or difficulties. From time to time we all reach a point where just coping seems so difficult. I have worked in Pieta House for many years and specialise in working with individuals in suicidal crisis or those engaging in deliberate self harm.
When working with a person in crisis it is better to meet twice a week for the first 3 weeks and then reduce sessions to one per week after that. Crisis intervention work is usually brief, up to 15 sessions and focuses on the crisis and resulting behaviour and thought patterns rather than exploring at a deep level the causality which becomes manifest in negative or dangerous behaviours.

Form of therapy
Typically, a solution focused and cognitive behavioural approach will be adopted when working with people in acute distress. This is done as it is important to hold and contain a person in crisis and not allow them to become too over-whelmed. Solution focused therapy concentrates on thoughts and behaviours and is typically shorter in duration.
Common manifestations of crisis
- Suicidal Ideation
- Suicide attempts
- Deliberate Self harm
